| EASTER FESTIVAL ON STREETS OF HONG KONG
Edinburgh’s finest pipes and drums flew 6,000 miles to entertain the streets of Hong Kong.
The Edinburgh Postal Pipe Band were selected to represent the Edinburgh Easter Festival in the International Chinese New Year Night Parade on 22nd January 2004.
The illuminating night-time spectacular was witnessed by a street audience of more than 280,000 and a world-wide television audience of more than 340 million.
The Pipe Band stole the show and had the crowds reeling with their selection of traditional anthems. Having won the 2003 Edinburgh Easter Festival Best Domestic Musical Performance and now recently performing on an international platform in Hong Kong, the Pipe Band will take pride of place at the 2004 Edinburgh Easter Festival.
Drum Major Mike Lindsay said, “Hong Kong was the ultimate first footing experience, the atmosphere was simply amazing”
“We were thrilled to get the invitation. The Hospitality was first rate and the Chinese especially appreciative of our music and attire.
“It would be great to think that some of them might be inspired to travel to Scotland and watch us perform in the Edinburgh Easter Festival”.
The Edinburgh Easter Festival, which takes place from 8th to 12th April 2004, will provide the City with a joyful series of concerts and displays over the course of the Easter holiday.
Easter Sunday will see Princes Street Gardens transformed into a host of fun, free, family entertainment with live stage shows, an Easter Egg hunt, maypole dancing, circus skills, face painting and much, much more.
