| U.S YOUNGSTERS DEFY CYNICS TO JET IN TO SCOTLAND
More than 1,500 youngsters from the USA will be airlifted to Scotland today (15.04.03) to participate in the inaugural Edinburgh Easter Festival.
The young performers, from more than a dozen states, will take to the streets in Edinburgh on Saturday and Sunday (April 19th and 20th) to help kick-start the tourist season.
Some news reports suggested that the American element would refuse to travel due to the outbreak of war in Iraq – but nothing could be further from the truth.
“We were never in any doubt that they would come,” said Festival Director Bob Bone, “They were determined to make the trip and they have.
“Scotland is set to welcome them with open arms.”
The festival reaches its climax on Easter Sunday when more than 3,500 performers, representing half a dozen nations, will fill the centre of the city – with a kaleidoscope of colour and music.
The free, family event will focus on Princes St. Gardens, Castle St. and Festival Square.
