AMERICAN DREAM FOR LONDON YOUNGSTERS

Two young musicians have the chance to ‘bang the drum’ for Britain - and live the American Dream – with The New Year’s Day Parade London.

The Capital’s traditional festive celebration has teamed up with BBC London 94.9, to send two youngsters to an American High School – rehearse in the States and perform with their new found friends, at The New Year’s Day Parade – London.

Executive Director of The New Year’s Day Parade, Bob Bone, said: “This really is an amazing opportunity – a life changing experience for two lucky and talented youngsters.

“They are sure to benefit from their experiences – and make some life long friends along the way.”

The winners will fly Los Angeles on December 6th, spend a night in a top hotel, then join their American host family for a five night stay.

They will attend The Woodbridge High School, for a week, and perform at the school’s Christmas concerts.

And on their return to the UK they enjoy a spectacular reunion to perform before hundreds of thousands on the streets of The West End, at The New Year’s Day Parade – London.

Paul Leaper, Asst Editor BBC London 94.9 said: ‘This is a great chance for young London talent to show off their skills on both sides of the Atlantic – culminating on the streets of London.  BBC London 94.9 is looking forward to finding our two youngsters to represent London – and we look forward to hearing them on the radio – and in the Parade.’

Entrants need to be aged 15-18 and play either percussion, brass or woodwind instruments to a level of grade four or above.

Tapes or cds should be sent to: BBC Young Musician, 30 Great Portland St, London W1W 8QU by Wednesday October 22nd.

The competition final will be held in central London on Wednesday October 29th.
